Players including Maarten Stekelenburg, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart and Arjen Robben have all been left out for the match in Amsterdam.
Stekelenburg has lost his starting berth at Roma this term, while Sneijder only just left Inter for Galatasaray after he was frozen out at the Serie A giants.
Van der Vaart and Robben on the other hand have been struggling with injuries recently, but featured for their respective clubs again at the weekend.
Notable newcomers in the Oranje squad are Swansea midfielder Jonathan de Guzman and Ajax wing-back Daley Blind, while players such as Ola John and Ricky van Wolfswinkel were also called up.
Promising youngsters such as Adam Maher and Marco van Ginkel made the cut, too.
The match against Italy takes place at the Amsterdam ArenA on February 6.
