Eagles Send Ivorians Elephants Packing from the Nations Cup

CIVvsNigeria

"News on Top" The Golden Generation of the Ivory Coast finally came to the end of the road as they were usurped by Stephen Keshi's plucky Super Eagles at the King Bafokeng Stadium.
Nigeria took the lead against the lethargic Elephants through a wonderful Emmanuel Emenike strike, before Cheik Tiote equalised with a header just after the interval. In an engrossing second half, Sunday Mba wrote his name in Naija folklore by finishing a hopeful run with a deflected finish past Boubacar Barry.
For the first half of action it seemed like the Super Eagles had turned back the clock and rolled back the years. Gone was the timidity and the nervousness that had characterised their dull group encounters, the side looked bold and brave.
In comparison, the Ivorians, so well-fancied before the tournament, looked laborious and lethargic – their casual approach matching the unprofessional nicknames on some of their shirts.
It felt like 1994 as the Super Eagles burst forward. Victor Moses, the nation’s saviour against Ethiopia, was once again influential – his tenacious running and ferocious speed constantly causing problems for the Ivorian defenders.

QPR striker suffers groin injury in training-Loic Remy.

News on Top QPR manager Harry Redknapp has said French striker Loic Remy faces a spell on the sidelines with a groin injury.
Remy, who joined the R's for £8m from Marseille last month, was hurt in training on Friday.
Redknapp initially said the injury was a tear but after Saturday's 0-0 draw against Norwich at Loftus Road, it is now thought it is only a strain.
"I have no idea how long he will be out. We will have to see how he is on Sunday and Monday," Redknapp said.
Chris Samba was fantastic. If that's 40%, I don't know what he'll be like when he's 100%. He was outstanding

South Africa Vs Mali Of Africa Cup of The Nation

South African after Mali's shootout victory in their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final

Mali are the breaker of hosts' hearts. For the second successive year, they reduced a packed stadium to disbelieving silence, coming from behind to beat the Africa Cup of Nations hosts on penalties in the quarter-final. On Saturday night in Durban, as in Libreville against Gabon, the goalkeeper Soumaila Diakité was the hero. First he plunged to his right to beat away Dean Furman's penalty, then he stretched even further and lower to deny May Mahlangu. Lehlohonolo Majoro's wild effort, driven way wide, sealed the defeat.
So South Africa's dream is over but they at least restored some pride; there was some honour in their failure. They go out undefeated and, while their opening-day display against Cape Verde was dire, they have the memories of the consummate win over Angola and the dramatic late equaliser against Morocco to sustain them through World Cup qualifying. And for 26 minutes on Saturday, they looked like making the semi-final for the first time since 2000.
Gordon Igesund, the South Africa coach, had warned of the Eagles' height advantage and the frisson of anxiety was palpable in the stadium at each set play. Yet it was a Mali free-kick that led to South Africa taking a 32nd-minute lead. Itumeleng Khune claimed Seydou Keita's delivery acrobatically,

Timbuktu hails French President Hollande - Mali conflict

France's president has said it would be wrong to assume the conflict in Mali is over, three weeks after launching an offensive to oust Islamist rebels.
Francois Hollande was speaking during a visit to the recently recaptured city of Timbuktu, where thousands welcomed him with chants of "Vive la France".
Mr Hollande said French forces would help Malian forces finish the job of re-establishing control in the north.
And he vowed later to help rebuild Mali and to restore its cultural sites.
Meanwhile, the UN said Tuareg and Arabs in the north were at risk of reprisals.
The UN special adviser on the prevention of genocide said there had been serious allegations of human rights violations committed by the Malian army, including summary executions and disappearances.
There had also been reports of incidents of mob lynching and looting of properties belonging to Arab and Tuareg communities, which had been accused of supporting armed Islamist groups, Adama Dieng added.
The allegations came as heavily-armoured columns of French and Malian troops continued their advance in northern Mali.
They are attempting to secure the north-eastern city of Kidal, the militants' last stronghold, having captured the airport on Wednesday.

The attack in the capital Cairo was filmed by a camera crew, who saw the naked man being hauled into a police van.
Egypt's presidency said on Saturday it was "pained by the shocking footage" - and that it was "an isolated act".
It said the protester's treatment was of "a manner that does not accord with human dignity and human rights".

Southern Senegal Casamance, Four Frenchman Killed

News on Top DAKAR (Reuters) - Four people, including a Frenchman, were killed in Senegal's southern Casamance region when suspected separatist rebels clashed with government soldiers, a military source said on Saturday.
The shoot-out took place late on Friday after suspected members of the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC), which has led a low-level insurgency in the region since the 1980s, robbed a bank in the town of Kafoutine.
"There are four dead including a Frenchman," said the source. He said the French victim had lived in Casamance and was married to a Senegalese woman.
The others killed in the attack were Senegalese, the source said. The suspected rebels made off with some 4 million CFA francs ($8,400) in cash from the bank.
The MFDC has fought a long-running bush war for independence in the mostly-Christian southern region of predominantly Muslim Senegal.
Its revolt has fed on resentment among the southern Diola people against the Wolof, Senegal's dominant

News on Top China fireworks truck blast causes highway collapse

News on Top TV footage shows the dusty aftermath on and underneath the bridge
A truck carrying fireworks has exploded on an elevated highway in central China, killing at least five people and causing part of the road to collapse, state media report.
The blast, which destroyed an 80m (262ft) section of road, took place on the G30 expressway in Henan province.
China National Radio had put the number of dead at 26 but the report appeared to have been removed from websites.
Several vehicles were reported to have tumbled off the road.
Witnesses said some cars were thrown off by the force of the blast, the cause of which was not immediately clear.

Six vehicles were retrieved from the wreckage, Xinhua said, while search and rescue efforts were continuing at the site. Eight people had been injured, the agency said.
Footage from state broadcaster CCTV showed rescuers digging through rubble. The channel said 10 trucks had been found under the bridge.
Images posted on microblogging sites showed wrecked trucks and debris, as well as a collapsed section of highway.

Hunt for survivors in Pemex building - "Mexico City blast"

Rescuers have been working overnight to find survivors trapped after a deadly blast at the Mexico City headquarters of the state oil company, Pemex.
Some 500 rescuers helped by dogs are searching the building for a number of people thought to be trapped by a blast that killed 25 people and injured 100.
Relatives of employees have gathered in search of information - some trying to reach loved ones via mobile phone.
The cause of the blast is under investigation, Pemex says.
'Full weight of the law'
Relatives of employees gathered desperate for information about their loved ones
Thursday afternoon's explosion in the lower floors of a building adjoining the 54-storey Pemex skyscraper happened as shifts were changing, making the area particularly crowded.
Debris from the blast spread out on to the street in front of the building.
Red Cross ambulances and helicopters were shuttling the injured to hospital, while firefighters and soldiers dug through chunks of concrete with a crane to reach trapped survivors.
